Alliser Thorne and Dolorous Edd – Season 6

In this brief scene from season six, Edd lets Ghost out of his kennel following Jon’s death. As the pair cross the courtyard of Castle Black, they encounter Alliser Thorne and his cronies. Thorne demands to know what he’s doing, and Edd claims he’s taking Ghost to be fed. Thorne tells Edd that he should have just left Ghost penned up and brought him food, but Edd angrily argues that they can’t cage the direwolf forever. Thorne then suggests that Edd just take Ghost through the tunnel and set him loose north of the Wall.

Although the unfinished CGI for Ghost is a bit distracting, it’s great to see Edd show his mettle by standing up to Thorne, who just murdered Edd’s friend and is now about to seize control of the Night’s Watch. It also proves that Edd is far craftier than he lets on. After rewatching the first episode of season six, it becomes obvious that Edd’s tale about feeding Ghost was a ruse—he was in fact taking him up to the room where Davos was guarding Jon’s body. This gives Davos and the others an added layer of security until Edd can return with the wildlings in the next episode.
