Grey Worm and Missandei – Season 5

One relationship that has been essentially built from scratch by the Game of Thrones showrunners is the one between Missandei and Grey Worm. To begin with, the Missandei of the books is a young girl, not a young adult woman as seen on the show. At any rate, while some book-readers are not fans of this new romantic connection between two of Daenerys’ closest advisors, it appears that it’s here to stay: the pair made their relationship official, getting hot and heavy in the second episode of season seven before Grey Worm departed with the Unsullied to attack Casterly Rock.

In this deleted scene from season five, we get to see an extended version of a scene between the two after the Unsullied named White Rat was killed in a Meereen brothel. We get to see a hint of the beginning of the romance between Grey Worm and Missandei, as she tells him that she is afraid for him and what might happen if the Sons of the Harpy attack the Unsullied.

She urges him to be careful and protect himself, but he tells her, “I protect Daenerys Stormborn.” Of course, it seems that Missandei’s fear was well-placed—it isn’t much later that Grey Worm, Barristan, and the Unsullied are waylaid by the Sons of the Harpy in an alleyway and nearly killed to a man.
